Ingredients of Naan Khatai

  1. You need 4 cups of Flour.

Nankhatai (Urdu: نان خطائی ‎) are shortbread biscuits, originating from the Indian subcontinent, popular in Northern India and Pakistan. The word Nankhatai is derived from Persian word Naan meaning bread and "Khatai" from an Dari Persian word meaning Biscuit. In Afghanistan and Northeast Iran, these biscuits are called Kulcha-e-Khataye.



Naan Khatai step by step

  1. Melt clarified butter and Allow to cool. now freeze in the freezer..
  2. Beat Frozen butter with electric beater, while beating gradually add sugar, Samolina, flour, cardemom powder and baking powder..
  3. Knead to make a smooth surface dough. Now make a small ball from dough as required size and press with palm..
  4. Place all dough pressed balls on Baking lined tray and by using thumb make slightly depression into the center..
  5. Now brush with egg yolk and top some chopped pistachios and bake them at 180 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes..
  6. Naan khatai is ready to serve..

Kulcha is a type of Indian bread similar to. Nankhatai is one cookie which was made in India even when ovens were not all that common. In fact this is the only cookie that I can remember from my childhood that people used to bake at home using those traditional ovens with glass top. Nan Khatai are crunchy, shortbread like cookies flavored with cardamom are one of the very few baked goodies that my mum used to make for us while we were growing up. Baking was not an easy thing to do back then.
